Phenix Cheer Team places first in competition

The cheerleading squad from Phenix PreK-8 School clinched the top spot in the Middle School Division of the National Black Cheerleading Competition (NBCC) in Greensboro, NC. The competition took place at James B. Dudley High School on March 16, 2024.

The Phenix team competed against middle school teams from North Carolina and Virginia.

Coach Karmen Gray said, “It’s year two for our cheer program and we are so honored to accomplish this achievement.”

“We are so proud of our cheerleaders,” shared Phenix principal Robin Hunt-Crenshaw. “They worked hard to prepare for this victory. Go Panthers! Where the Legacy of Greatness...Continues!”

During their excursion, the students had the opportunity to explore the grounds of North Carolina A&T State University and reconnect with Phenix alumna and 2023 graduate of Hampton City Schools, Selah Longchamp. They concluded their trip with a visit to the International Civil Rights Museum to view the historic Woolworths counter where the Greensboro Four made their stand.
