KHS Theatre brings home awards

Students in the performing arts at Kecoughtan High School (KHS) continue to shine as they bring home awards in various festivals and competitions. The students perform under the direction of theatre coach Tracy Bourne.


On January 27, KHS Theatre participated in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) 5B Regional One Act Festival, contending against eight other schools. They secured first place with their one-act play Attack! of the Killer Man from the Sun! Notably, Josh Cunnison and Brian Ranger, Jr. received special recognition as outstanding actors.


On February 10, the KHS Theatre earned runner-up in the VHSL One Act Super Regional Festival. Brian Ranger, Jr. again earned best actor recognition. Participating students are as follows:

Attack! of the Killer Man from the Sun was produced by special arrangement with Uproar Theatrics, Inc.


Student Riley Brooker said, “This was a wonderful and challenging learning experience. The homage to old sci-fi movies made for a fun time!”


Bourne said, “It's exciting to see the hard work of the students, on and off stage; the pay off; and the joy they bring to their audiences. And of course, it is great to bring home a trophy!”
