KHS Harbor Lights and touch of Jade teams earn accolades

Harbor Lights and Touch of Jade from Kecoughtan High School (KHS), under the direction of Corinne Huber (assistant directed by Jeanne Capriotti and choreographed by Austin Rosenberg), competed against choirs from across the country at the Powhatan Diamond Classic on March 22 and 23, 2024.

Harbor Lights placed third in their division, competing against five other groups. They received best choreography; best tech crew; and the showmanship award went to Trinity Jefferson and Wyatt Fatkin. Remarkably, the tech crew has been recognized as the best tech crew in every competition that they have participated in this year.

The Touch of Jade group placed first in their division surpassing six other groups. They received best vocals; best choreography; best band; best show design; and best costumes. In addition, Madison Newton won the showmanship award.

Huber shared, “Both groups will perform their shows one last time on May 23 at the Kecoughtan Choral Spring Concert. We hope to see you there.”

Academy of On Stage: Performing Arts principal Dr. Sharmaine Grove said, “Show Choir at Kecoughtan High School is a phenomenal program directed by Mrs. Corinne Huber. This is her first year with all-things KHS Show Choir and one cannot tell! Show Choir is very unique in that it combines singing, dancing, and acting...YES – acting. Our show choir students get into character and take on the personas of the characters/people represented through their songs. Performers spend countless hours in the summer prior to the school year beginning to learn choreography, select music and costumes, and learn about the planned events for the year. It takes a significant amount of time, energy, love, patience, and commitment to produce a show - the greatest of these is love. Our students LOVE what they do and it exudes in their performances. Show Choir performances have a theme and tell a beautiful story through song and dance. There is nothing like it!”
